Thirteen entrepreneurs from Reno County have successfully graduated from the "Growing Rural Businesses" program, an intensive eight-week series of workshops. The program was made possible through a partnership between StartUp Hutch, WSU’s Center for Entrepreneurship, and NetWork Kansas.

“We strive to provide opportunities to entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey,” said Jackson Swearer, StartUp Hutch Entrepreneur Navigator and Director. “I was excited to watch business owners from all over Reno County come together to spend time working on their business.”

The graduates are a diverse group, including six men and seven women representing the retail, service, manufacturing, and agriculture industries. The majority of participants operate in Hutchinson, but businesses from across Reno County were represented at this training which is designed to help rural businesses expand strategically.

“This was one of the most fun and engaged groups we have ever had,” said Nancy Kersenbrock, Assistant Director for the WSU Center for Entrepreneurship.

During the program, participants received valuable guidance and practical strategies from WSU Center for Entrepreneurship trainers. Trainers changed from week to week, and included experienced professionals and Wichita State University professors.

The workshops covered a wide range of essential topics, including marketing, sales techniques, legal structures, and finances. By completing the course, these local entrepreneurs are now better equipped to expand their existing businesses in Reno County.
